With the Bible and The Constitution, Voting for Ted Cruz Should Be a No-Brainer

In past elections, I’ve been torn between the two books that represent the mindset and the worldview of conservative Christians. 2008 had me hoping for Fred Thompson the conservative and Mike Huckabee the Christian. 2012 gave us Newt Gingrich the conservative and Rick Santorum the Christian. This year, we have Ted Cruz the conservative Christian.

To be fair, I didn’t really fall in behind any of the candidates in 2008 and 2012. They conservative or Christian options were better than the Republican Establishment choices of John McCain and Mitt Romney, but they weren’t exactly filling me with deep inspiration or glowing hope based upon the three important factors:

  1. Ability to win the nomination against the Establishment choice
  2. Ability to win the general election against the Democrat
  3. Ability to be a strong Command-in-Chief, President of the United States, and Statesman to lead the world.

Cruz, for his part, has emerged as the best option in all three criteria. The two latter criteria – beating the Democrats and being a strong President – are going to happen if he can overcome the first challenge. To win the nomination, he needs to be able to overcome three direct obstacles:

  1. The Democrats. Watching the left-wing media tells us that they’ve been more fearful of him than any other candidate for months, but even the left-leaning mainstream media is starting to catch on and levy attacks. They want to face either Donald Trump or Marco Rubio. Cruz and Chris Christie are the candidates they hope get muscled out.
  2. The Republican Establishment. There’s a playbook that’s being pulled out and used. The irony is that the last time they had to use the playbook, it didn’t work. They tried the same things against Ronald Reagan in 1980 and they’re hoping for different results in 2016.
  3. The Lesser Conservatives. Mike Huckabee is on the attack. Rick Santorum is on the attack. Now, Rand Paul is on the attack. None of them have a remote chance of winning the nomination. The sooner they realize this, the better the chances that an actual conservative can finally sit in the White House again. Right now, the three “conservatives” are damaging the best chance for their ideologies to control the White House. To maintain their own waning relevance, they’re willing to help the Republican Establishment. It’s extremely disappointing.

Let’s look at the power of the two documents that guide Ted Cruz and that should be guiding every Republican voter towards supporting him.

Bible-Driven

One does not have to be a devout Christian in order to see the benefits of a President that starts and finishes his days on his knees. We haven’t seen the type of unabashed humility towards our Creator from a serious candidate in decades. It’s one thing to claim to be a Christian and hold Judeo-Christian values. It’s another thing to practice it on the campaign trail and in life itself.

This country needs values instilled into the White House and those values need to drip down throughout the people. There’s a reason that racism, cynicism, and moral depravity have become the new normal in America over the last decade. It’s in the turning away from the values that are held by the Bible that we lose our ability to combat that powers and principalities that are arrayed against us.

Cruz is a believer. I often find myself questioning a candidate’s faith based upon their words and their actions even when they claim to be Christians. With Cruz, there can be no doubt.

Defender of the Constitution

It amazes me that there’s no test given before someone can become an elected official in Washington DC, let alone President. It’s not a religious test. It’s not a foreign relations test, and economic aptitude test, or a bar exam. The test that every candidate should be able to pass is a one that demonstrates a deep understanding of the Constitution. How can anyone defend the foundation of our Republic if they’ve never even read it?

Ted Cruz hasn’t just read the Constitution. He’s memorized it. That may be taking it too far, but I’ll take it. What’s more impressive is that he’s defended it. He’s stood at the Supreme Court and upheld the tenets of the Constitution on multiple occasions. He’s stood on the floor of the Senate and given his colleagues the information they needed to make the right decisions. He’s given the oath to defend the Constitution and he’s the first candidate in a long time who actually intends to do so.

What This Means

If more people understood the dynamics of Washington DC, Ted Cruz would win the nomination by a landslide. The problem is that the myths that have been perpetuated by politicians and the media would have us think that a Bible-believing, Constitution-defending person cannot work with Congress and that he’s proven this in his short time as Senator. This is so far from the truth that it’s disgusting to hear.

President Obama has demonstrated that he doesn’t need Congress to get his way. I would never want anyone to take advantage of the office of the President of the United States in the same, way, not even Cruz. And that’s the point. One does not need to get along with Congressmen and Senators in order to guide their actions in a conservative direction and not veto the bills they send him. Again, the dynamic is completely different for a Senator and a President.

We’ve tried the liberal approach. We’ve tried the Republican Establishment approach. It’s time to try the conservative Christian approach. For the first time in decades, we have that option available and viable. Don’t blow it.
