Ted Cruz will be Declared Eligible Before the Iowa Caucus

Ted Cruz supporters needn’t fret nor should opponents gloat. All of the hubbub that surrounds his eligibility is going to work in his favor. Before the Iowa caucus, he will be declared eligible one way or another and will get a huge bump in the polls as a result.

Do I have inside information? Not yet. Have I been in contact with the Cruz campaign? Nope. Do I know a judge who’s about to make an announcement? This actually isn’t even an option, as I’ll explain shortly, yet some publications are still calling for it. All I have is an understanding of the Constitution, knowledge of how the law really works, and faith that the Cruz campaign has demonstrated over the last several months that they know exactly what they’re doing.

This is something that can be quite easily resolved. A federal judge has to rule on it. Then, an appellate court has to uphold or reverse the ruling. If upheld, the Supreme Court would need to decide whether or not to hear the case. It sounds complicated, but it’s something that could all happen in a couple of weeks. Why isn’t it being done yet? Because nobody has sued Cruz over his eligibility. They won’t. They know that if they sue him, he’ll be declared eligible. They prefer to keep the American people in the dark. If the issue gets resolved, they lose that leverage.

Donald Trump and other candidates are willfully deceiving Americans.

For the Cruz campaign, they’re prepared to go in either direction. They know that if he’s sued that they’ll win and resolve the issue for good. If he’s not sued, he’ll demand that those bringing these charges up must act or stop spreading a lie. They want doubt cast on him. They don’t want this to go to court. This is why option 2 is the most likely scenario and it’s why in the days leading up to the Iowa caucus the campaign will say as little as possible on the issue. They want to end this line of questioning with a bang and that bang will be a logical declaration that if his eligibility is in doubt that his opponents should take action.

In essence, he will use their lack of bringing this to court as a clear pronouncement that they know he’s eligible. If they didn’t, they would have sued, right? Since they didn’t sue, they are acknowledging the truth.

One might wonder why this would be the strategy? Why wouldn’t they simply clear everything up now (or months ago) rather than waiting until the last moment? The answer is simple. He’s one of the two frontrunners. Therefore, he’s targeted for attacks. By making a non-issue the focal point for all of these attacks, his campaign is preventing the opposition from imposing any other frivolous complaints or attacks against him.

In short, this is all part of the game plan. The only thing truly at risk here is whether or not people will start seeing a conspiracy theory that Trump is secretly helping him get the nomination. This is ludicrous, of course, but those theories will pop up and somebody’s going to cry foul.

The American people deserve a resolution and the only people who can bring it about are Cruz’s competitors. The fact that they won’t do it represents their fear, a fear so strong they resort to smearing rather than doing what’s in the best interests of the voters.
