Fiorina is wrong about our Clinton debate fantasy

Carly Fiorina Hillary Clinton

Since the beginning of her campaign, GOP Presidential candidate Carly Fiorina has told Americans in general and Republicans in particular that they would pay to see her and Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton debate. This talking point is one of the biggest reasons her campaign is failing.

She’s wrong. We don’t care about seeing a Fiorina-Clinton debate. Sure, there are some ignorant voters who might think that it would be good to see, but at the end of the day the Republicans only really care about beating Clinton or Bernie Sanders, whichever ends up being the nominee. This isn’t about the campaign. The debaters aren’t important. We want a victory.

We might be an entertainment-driven society to some extent, but when it comes to politics there’s a difference between entertainment popularity such as what Donald Trump has brought to the table and the sordid entertainment that Fiorina is trying to use to drum up support.

In short, we wouldn’t pay to see any debaters in particular. We want the most valid and principled Republican to take on whatever the Democrats can must. We don’t want the debates to be fun. We want victory. We want the White House.
