Birthers are Trump’s Hail Mary Against Ted Cruz

The desperation has been thick the last few weeks in Donald Trump’s campaign. They’ve tried to cast doubt on Ted Cruz’s likelihood of being the GOP nominee and thus far he’s been pretty bulletproof. Their last resort: birthers. It’s a nonsensical argument designed to misdirect and manipulate voters so they’ll look away from real issues and focus on their prejudices.

There’s a reason that the issue has been known for quite a while but has only come out recently. Looking at the Constitution, it’s clear that Cruz is eligible. Looking at the campaigns, the issues, and the solutions, it’s clear that Cruz is ideal to be President of the United States. Everyone with a horse in the race who has explored the issue of Cruz’s eligibility know that it’s a non-issue. Yes, even Trump knows this. His hope is that he can stir up enough anti-immigration sentiment by calling his eligibility into doubt because he has no more bullets he can use on the Texas Senator.

Thankfully, he might be doing Cruz a favor. By getting this out of the way now, it makes it easier for Cruz to put it to rest. By showing his mother’s birth certificate, he affirms that she is a US citizen, making him a US citizen and eligible to be President.

This also brings up the topic of Ted Cruz having dual-citizenship. While it’s nothing that could possibly prevent him from being President, it plays to many American’s fears of loyalty. To those who might fall into this category, there’s an answer:

Why is this an issue? The answer should be apparent to anyone watching with discerning eyes. Trump is so desperate for anything to hold against Cruz that he pulls out a losing argument in hopes that Americans are stupid. Based upon the polls, he is clearly right about a good chunk of us.
