All eyes are on Donald Trump and rightfully so. He’s making waves that are drowning the other Republican candidates. He’s pointing out problems in America that most aren’t willing to say publicly. He’s rallying a large portion of the party around him and masterfully playing on the concept of being an outsider.
Despite all of this, the liberal mainstream media and the powers that be for the Democratic party are relatively silent. Sure, there’s going to be the occasional hit piece by an overzealous journalist or a desperate candidate playing for cheers from the crowd, but for the most part nearly all of the attacks on Trump have come from the right.
On the other side, conservative media and every major Republican candidate is attacking Hillary Clinton like there’s no tomorrow. The names “Clinton” and “Obama” are tied together in many speeches and almost all accusations about President Obama are also attached to the former Secretary of State. She doesn’t have the nomination, yet. In fact, she’s dangerously close to not even being the front-runner anymore.
What’s the difference between the right and the left in these two cases? The right is being impractical and the left is quietly giving knowing looks to their cohorts, hoping against all hope that Donald Trump will actually win the nomination.
If Trump wins the GOP nomination, the left knows that the White House will be under Democratic control for another four years at least. They won’t do anything to stop that from happening.
If Clinton wins for the Democrats and Trump does not, it’s much more likely that a Republican will win the White House.
Do you see the difference? The right is attacking their best hope of victory, a Clinton nomination, while the left is saving all of their ammunition in hopes of their greatest hope of victory, a Trump nomination.
Other than the Megyn Kelly incident which was covered more by conservative media than liberal media, the feminist left has been very quiet about one of Trump’s Achilles Heels: a long and unforgivable history of attacks against women. Don’t misunderstand – these aren’t the types of attacks that are unforgivable if perpetrated by anyone not running for office. However, it’s going to be difficult for many women and even men to vote for a man who told a woman that wanted to pump breast milk for her 3-month-old daughter “disgusting.”
“When the lawyer, Elizabeth Beck, asked for a medical break, Mr. Trump and his lawyers objected, demanding that the deposition continue. Ms. Beck said it was urgent—she needed to pump breast milk for her 3-month-old daughter, and she took the pump out to make a point,” wrote the NY Times. “Mr. Trump erupted. ‘You’re disgusting,’ he told Ms. Beck, in a remark that is not disputed by either side. He then walked out of the room, ending the testimony for the day.”
From Kelly to Rosie O’Donnell, Angelina Jolie to his own ex-wife, the list of women that Donald Trump publicly or privately attacked is very, very long. The left already has a huge list of women who they are prepared to interview (or who they’ve interviewed already) that will tell of their experiences with The Donald. They will paint him as the epitome of misogyny. If the “war on women” has been a thing in the past, it’s going to be the primary focus if Trump is crowned as the GOP king.
This is a certainty. It’s difficult for those who support Trump to believe or anticipate, but one doesn’t need a crystal ball to realize that this is the gameplan. The left is smart enough to want Trump to be the nominee and are playing it brilliantly by keeping attacks to the minimum. They will allow some of the GOP candidates to soften him up before unleashing media hell on him if he wins the nomination.
The unfortunate part is that he has his supporters believing that he’s prepared for the attacks when his history has demonstrated the exact opposite. He has never taken to criticism well. His immature responses to the Kelly incident are indicative of a history that includes pouring wine on a reporter who wrote a bad story about him, vindictively going after anyone who wronged him, and calling people names in a way that he’s trying to position as “straight talk” but that actually sounds like “whiny baby got his feelings hurt” responses.
The left is waiting. They’re hoping. They can barely contain their glee at seeing polls showing Trump has a real chance at the nomination. On the other side of the fence, the right is doing everything they can to destroy Clinton before she has the nomination. We’ve seen this happen before in 2008. The right simply couldn’t contain itself. It couldn’t imagine the prospect of having Hillary in office so they helped to prevent her from even getting the nomination in the first place. Then, we were given eight years of President Barack Obama as our reward for taking down Clinton.
The same thing appears to be happening again. Instead of holding our ammunition for the right time the way the left is doing with Trump, we’re doing such a strong all-out attack on Clinton that at this point it’s becoming more and more likely that Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden, or even Martin O’Malley will get the nomination. Any of them would easily beat Trump. They each also have a better chance than Clinton of beating a different Republican candidate.
Like many on the right, I like a lot of what Trump is saying now. The left is really loving what Trump has said and done in the past because it’s newsworthy and damning. They’re just smart enough to keep their ammo in their weapons until they see the white in Trump’s eyes.
