If These are the End Times, Christians Mustn’t Panic

A lot of you can feel it. You can see it in the news. You can sense it around you at work, school, or wherever you get around a lot of people. Not everybody feels it. In fact, not every Christian feels it. In this case, the “it” of which I speak is both elusive and right in front of our faces.

The feeling that I’m describing is the sensation that events on this planet are escalating and accelerating towards the end of this current society. This feeling can manifest itself in different ways; despair, excitement, apprehension, and anticipation are all common depending on your perspective. Things are very different than they were just three or four years ago. Those of us who have been around long enough realize that the changes brought on by technological advances and wholesale shifts in societal perspectives are flowing at a much faster pace than in the not-too-distant past.

For believers, this can make us hopeful of a time when we’re granted the reward purchased on our behalf through the sacrifice of our Lord and Savior. However, it can also bring about fears, even panic, as people cling on to what we have. The rush for “more and better” has been replaced by a need to retain what we have and advance when we can.

Now is not the time to panic. It’s not the time to clam up and wait for better times. Whether in the form of religious freedoms being taken away or true evil forcing itself upon people in other societies where being a believer can cost them their lives, the needs for action are increasing. It isn’t very popular in western society today to have complete faith, to be led by the Spirit rather than driven by secular needs. Even churchgoers are often Christians for little more than an hour per week.

In these changing times, it’s so important to believe and share those beliefs with others. Now is not the time to climb into a hole and wait for the promised end. We need boldness in our actions and intelligence in our planning. We need to be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.

This video that we did on JCC gives our perspective on the need to stay calm and diligent today.
