Robots could be over 1/4th of the ‘workforce’ in less than a decade

If you do any sort of job that could be considered “blue collar”, you’ve probably seen some form of technology designed to assist you in doing your job better or even taking over some of your work. You may even be one who fell victim to technology making your job obsolete. Not only will this spread over the next decade, but experts are predicting that many “white collar” jobs will fall into the same category before 2025.

The rise of technological advancements for assisting with work have been in play for over a century as the industrial revolution culminated in automation becoming a thing in production. This has continued to expand, of course, but in the last two decades, it has grown exponentially. With visions of a society like in the animated movie WALL-E fresh in our minds, could we be relegated to making some of the decisions while our robot friends make us fat and helpless? Will it be worse, such as the dreams of human apocalypse at the hands of robots in movies like I, Robot and the more recent Avengers: Age of Ultron?

With the estimates putting it at 30% of jobs going automated by 2025, the prospects are wonderful to some and terrifying to others. Here’s what Business Insider had to say about it:

Many people fear a jobless future — and their anxiety is not unwarranted: Gartner, an information technology research and advisory firm, predicts that one-third of jobs will be replaced by software, robots, and smart machines by 2025.
