Psalm 69:30-31 – ‘magnify him with thanksgiving’

30 I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.

31 This also shall please the Lord better than an ox or bullock that hath horns and hoofs.Psalm 69:30-31 (KJV)

Throughout the Old Testament, we learn that the sacrifices prescribed to the nation of Israel in order to atone for sin were required but not necessarily pleasing to the Lord. Unfortunately, sacrifices became the primary method of worship. The prophets spoke of this, that they were not a virtue but a requirement and that they did not please the Lord. He wants obedience and worship more than sacrifice for sin.

In this Psalm, we see this clearly laid out in a very straightforward fashion. Today, we no longer need to make blood sacrifices, but we must still worship our Father and honor our Lord and Savior.
