Harriet Tubman wins support to be on the $20 bill

The first woman to be printed on an American $20 bill will be Harriet Tubman if a grassroots organization gets their way. Women on 20s released the results of their online poll of over 600,000 voters and declared that slave and abolitionist Tubman is the people’s choice to replace President Andrew Jackson as the face of $20.

Irony would not be lost on this since Jackson was a slaveholder. Tubman became a beacon of hope for a free and equal America after being born into slavery. Tubman beat fourteen other women.

The group released a video addressing President Barack Obama that asked for him to act. It’s mostly symbolic since the decision is not really his, but the point was made. here’s the video:
