It has been speculated, even expected for months, but it appears that an official announcement of Ben Carson’s candidacy for the GOP nomination for President is right around the corner. Today, he said that he would be running and the official announcement is expected to come Monday in his home town of Detroit.
The non-politician who has never had an elected position hopes that his connections with the people combined with a willingness to be critical will propel him to the nomination. As of now, most polls put him somewhere between 5th and 8th in a very diverse field of potential candidates. He joins Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, and Marco Rubio as those who have officially announced with Carly Fiorina, Jeb Bush, and dozens of others in the exploratory phase.
