Is the musical kingmaker American Idol reaching its conclusion? If you ask that question to most Americans, the answer will be a snide remark such as “it’s been done for a while.” Now, Fox may be taking the hint as industry insiders are pointing to the upcoming 15th season as the show’s last.
This is continued bad news for Fox which has seen ratings drops in most areas other than the smash hit Empire.
Hollywood Reporter tells us:
“The heat is now on Empire to sustain its audience and launch something else,” SMGx’s Sam Armandosays of the No. 4 network, which still suffered a dramatic 20 percent ratings drop courtesy of flopUtopia, more American Idol fatigue and Sleepy Hollow‘s sophomore slump. Idol will return with the same trio of judges, but insiders say the 15th season will be cut back and is expected to be the series’ last.
