ISIS claims credit for attack on ‘Draw Muhammad’ event

Speculation can cease. ISIS is claiming that the attack that left both attackers dead at a Texas event featuring “Draw Muhammad” for a free speech rally was initiated on their orders. Social media accounts of the attackers are being checked to confirm this. One report shows that an attacker had pledged his allegiance to ISIS on Twitter.

If it’s true, it will be the most covered attack by ISIS on American soil. The Islamic organization has claimed responsibility for attacks in other countries as well as in the United States, but the sensitivity of this particular attack is profound. It would mean that the group can reach into America to initiate terrorism, a fear that some in the government and media have claimed was possible for some time.

While the attack was only somewhat successful in that a security guard was injured, it sets a precedent that should be thoroughly covered by the press.
