It’s challenging in today’s Hollywood atmosphere to come out as a Christian. That statement in itself is hard to swallow; “coming out” used to damage one’s career for different reasons, but in Hollywood today, coming out as a Christian can be much more damaging to the career (but beneficial to the soul, of course) than coming out as homosexual.
Queen Latifah is not your stereotypical Hollywood insider. She doesn’t have the physical build associated with today’s successful lead actresses. She also isn’t afraid to express her faith, something that has helped her through tribulations throughout her life that included death, sexual abuse, and substance abuse.
In an interview with Good Housekeeping, the rapper-turned-actress was not shy about God helping her through her troubles when drugs and alcohol failed her.
According to Good Housekeeping:
Though her success story may read like a fairy tale, she has seen more than her share of trauma, tragedy, and self-destructive behavior en route to today’s happy ending. By drawing on her enduring faith, Latifah has embraced a determinedly upbeat outlook.
