The argument coming from the left is that guns are too easy to get, too easy to own, and too easy to take into a crowded public place and use them to take people’s lives. The stats they point at is the recent rise in mass shootings. This reasoning is very flawed.
Guns have been around for a long time. They’ve been readily available for a long time. In fact, it’s harder to get guns now than it was in the past. Prior to 1968, one buy a gun through a mail-order catalog and have it shipped to their house.
Certainly gun laws have to be more lenient today if you follow their logic. Access to them is their answer to the rise in gun violence, but if the gun laws haven’t changed, what has? To us, the answer is crystal clear. It’s the values in America that have been on a decline and the result is that people are more likely to do crazy things.
It was infuriating when I read the article on the NY Times about the Oregon shooter’s father who is wondering how his son had such easy access to all of the guns.

It’s not the availability of guns that has changed. It’s the lack of values, the shift away from the family, the acceptance and even promotion of sinful acts, and the lack of proper parenting that is producing killers. We see it very clearly illustrated in the places where gun violence is most prevalent. They don’t necessarily have more guns. They have reduced morals, fewer active parents, and liberal acceptance of sin.
I’m not going to go any further on this topic. You either see it or you don’t.
If the country focused on tightening up the moral fabric rather than on guns that have always been around, this debate would be over very quickly. If we push for gun bans, things are going to get much worse.
