Why did a dance team in Mexico do a Nazi-themed performance?

That’s a serious question. We don’t have the answer. It’s at least a little mind-blowing that in 2015, a team of girls aged 10-16 would think it wise to enter a dance/cheer competition in Mexico with a routine that featured Nazi symbolism, red armbands, and a WWII German salute.

Of the 192 teams competing in Guadalajara, Mexico, only one chose to do something that seemed to embrace an ideology that killed millions of people. They didn’t win. The organizers said that they left the choices of themes up to the teams themselves but are deciding whether or not to be more selective and discerning about their competitors in future competitions. The event, which happened in May, 2015, did not make headlines until a video of the performance was released on YouTube.
