@GrowCubes Bringing Aeroponics to Urban Food Growers

GrowCubes Aeroponics

One of the biggest challenges for those who want to grow their own food while living in a city is finding the space to do so. Those who live without a yard or access to a roof may be able to grow a tomato plant through their window if they’re lucky, but the that’s where urban farming stops for many. If you’re like many who want to go organic in the metropolis, you’re often stuck with long drives to farmers markets that may or may not have real organic produce.

This is where GrowCubes may come into play someday. They use the science of aeroponics to give plants water and nutrients. It’s the same basic concept of hydroponics but it uses mists of water instead of trays. This reduces the amount of water necessary to deliver the foundations of plant life, a feature that is growing more important around the world.

There are only a couple of hours left in the Engadget Insert Coin Awards voting, so if you think this is something that you want to see get more exposure (we do!) then go and vote now.

Will this aeroponics grow any type of plants? Is the resulted product the same in terms of appearance and size with those grown traditionally? And how much would it cost to have one aeroponics system?
