More Power for the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport

2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport

For three model years the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport has been a fan favorite. It has an attractive appearance and offers very nice performance off road. The one and only chief complaint for the Outlander Sport for these past model years has been a lack of power. As simple as it may be, Tim Allen said it best when he would get on stage and grunt out “more power” over and over again. Finally, after three years of not having enough power when it’s loaded down, the Outlander Sport is receiving a very nice injection of power in some of its models.

Normally the Outlander Sport features a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine and this engine will continue to be found in the ES model that starts out at a price of $22,145. The new Outlander Sport GT will start at a price of $24,445, which is well worth the increase when you consider it will house a 2.4-liter MIVEC inline four-cylinder engine which will offer up 168 horsepower; more than enough for this small crossover SUV to be able to show some guts, gain some glory and be loaded down with just about any kind of gear the occupants may need.

With the GT being an all-new trim level some of the amazing new features that will be found in this trim level will be a power driver’s seat, a leather wrapped parking brake handle, aluminum pedals, a black center bumper, black roof rails and LED turn signals which are integrated into the side mirrors. The GT will also be available with a Premium Package that includes a 710-watt Rockford Fosgate nine-speaker sound system with a ten-inch subwoofer, a panoramic glass roof with adjustable LED mood lighting and an auto dimming rearview mirror. Moving up to the GT Touring model adds a navigation system with a seven-inch touchscreen, 3D mapping, point of interest information and real time traffic alerts.

Mitsubishi is hoping the additional 20 horsepower and so many awesome features to enjoy will take care of any grumblings that were sounding loud and clear regarding the lack of power for the Outlander Sport. Only time will tell if this will be an adequate change for this popular and sporty compact crossover SUV, but one thing is for certain, this is a step in the right direction for Mitsubishi and the Outlander Sport which is now better than ever with the GT model.
