Acts 4:12 (KJV)
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
This is one of the most popular Bible verses often quoted and in itself is very profound. Once it’s understood in context, its meaning becomes much more profound. It isn’t just any other proclamation that Yeshua is the only way to salvation. That message, is of course, powerful. To understand it further, let’s look at when and why this verse was spoken.
Peter and John had healed a man in the name of Jesus who was known to be crippled from birth. At the time of his healing, he was over 40 years old so everyone knew that he was crippled to the point that he was carried daily to lay in front of the gate of the temple to beg for alms. When Peter and John came up to him, Peter told the man to look at them. The man, expecting alms, did as he was told.
Acts 3:6 – Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.
The man’s legs were instantly strengthened and they helped him to his feet.
It was for this act and their rebuking of the people of Israel for denying and killing Yeshua that Peter and John were imprisoned for a day. They were brought before the the people and the high priests in Jerusalem and questioned about their miracle.
Acts 4:10 – Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
As you can see, the statement made in Acts 4:12 is more than just apostles ministering to the people. They were answering to a hostile council making a claim that could have put them in prison for the rest of their lives or even killed. This bold statement in the face of severe adversity is something that all men must be able to do. Are you confident that if someone had a gun to your head that you would be so bold? You must. Stay true until the end at all costs. This message is one that you may never have to apply, but you must always be ready to do so. It’s hard enough for many people to proclaim their belief and love in Jesus Christ during normal moments in life. Strengthen your faith and prepare your resolve.
Be bold like Peter and John from now to the end of this life.
