Victoria Osteen Represents One of the Biggest Threats to Christians

Victoria Osteen

We have discussed Joel Osteen on a few occasions on this site, but we’ve never discussed his wife. A recent video has social media and news outlets discussing the false doctrinal claims she made, but we want to look more closely at the real problem that she represents in the modern church.

Before we go into that, let’s watch the video in question:

Now, let’s get to the heart of the problem. The Osteens are very far off from following the path of Christ. They have admiration and money, two powerful forces of Satan that would make it next to impossible for anyone to reach them. With so many people telling them that they’re doing good work and the wonders of this world pulling at them constantly thanks to their wealth status, trying to convert them to the truth would be impossible unless God Himself intervened.

Their followers, however, are more open to be reached.

I was at lunch with friend last year when he told me that his wife followed Osteen. Even my brother’s family believe that Lakewood Church is fine and that the prosperity “gospel” has legs. I understand the pull. We all must face the demons that bring a focus of this world into light. We all have vices in the form of earthly pleasures that compel us. This is why many modern churches promote the doctrine that we can live a better life now and Jesus can help.

Love Your Life This is not just far from the truth. It’s the exact opposite. We are not here to love our life. Just as I pointed out in our last article, there are so many pulls within churches that take us down a dark path. The very name of the event shown to the right is an example of what’s wrong with modern churches.

Yeshua spoke to this concept in the Gospel of John:

John 12:25 (KJV)

He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

We are very unlikely to be able to reach the Osteens, but we can reach their followers. Tell them that the doctrines taught in churches like Lakewood and by people like the Osteens are false. It’s hard to call them evil because they are almost always extremely charismatic and likeable, but if we understand that they are simply terribly misled and empowered to promote their misguided messages, then it’s easier to get through to people.

There is no doctrine in the Bible that teaches us to love our lives. We are not here to bring God pleasure by making Him happy. We are here to serve, to be thankful for the opportunity to live eternally thanks to the blood of our Lord and Savior, and to humble ourselves before Him. We are to live life in prayer, in the Bible, and in spreading the true Gospel to as many people as we can. We must fight the forces of darkness clothed in the full Armor of God and we are to make disciples of all nations.
