Episode 0 – An Introduction to the Judeo Christian Church Podcast

The Eastern Gate

We’re trying. We really are. We believe that it has been placed on our hearts to put together a weekly podcast that illuminates, that asks as many questions as it answers, and that tries to stay focused on the Bible rather than opinions that don’t hold up when placed in the light of scripture.

This first attempt, one that we’ve called Episode 0 since it’s a first attempt, came out better than expected but nowhere near the level that we want it to be. With that said, this introductory podcast is a good place to start when trying to understand our mission and to help us learn how to improve.

Check it out and please give us some feedback.

Trey Smith’s Exploration of Nephilim is Worth a Watch

Nephilim Skull

It’s important to always be careful with data, commentary, and information that you find anywhere, particularly on the internet. There is a ton of misinformation or even disinformation flooding us in regards to the Bible, science, history, the end of days, and anything of importance to our past and future. For every good piece of data, there are dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of bad pieces of data.

With that said, I have found the work of Trey Smith from God in a Nutshell both entertaining and informative. As always, I do not believe it’s necessary to try to “prove” our Lord, creation, or anything like that because we are told that knowledge of our God is part of us all. You don’t need proof. You need faith.

Smith’s work is still interesting. While I do not recommend it as a way to try to come to be a believer, for those who are solid in their faith, it makes for an intriguing exploration, albeit possibly distracting.

You should never try to prove the existence of God. You should help people find Him, but not through proof. Let the Word work. Allow the Holy Spirit to fill them. That’s the real goal. Proof is unnecessary and potentially blasphemous.

Here is the video that caught my attention. Set aside two hours before starting it – you won’t want to stop it once you get started. Smith has a style that is reminiscent of Jack Nicholson doing eschatology. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Do Not Underestimate the Importance of Subtle Blasphemy

Playstation Greatness Awaits

When a person start to see the evils of the world for what they are, that person often starts seeing it everywhere. It is so prevalent that some people even start to doubt, wondering if they’re being paranoid, wondering if they’re falling into the same trap that led to events like the Salem witch trials.

While it’s definitely possible to be mistaken and to start seeing too many things as evil, it’s usually the other way around. There truly is so much in the world today that we’ve grown complacent. We’ve allowed them to be a part of our lives whether we know it or not.

This is a topic that deserves a much deeper examination, but in this particular post I’m going to focus on a simple example. The video below isn’t the most evil thing you’ll ever see. You may even have a hard time determining that there’s anything blasphemous, misleading, or dangerous in it at all. That’s the point. The obvious examples can be easily broken down and avoided. It’s the subtle examples that often slip by us.

The message is more important than the delivery method. Unfortunately, the delivery method of this particular message is very powerful. It’s a commercial for a popular gaming system release expected before Christmas. This two month old Playstation 4 teaser video is loaded with messages that leave a trace on children and adults alike who accept the message.

Many will say that it’s just a video, that it cannot have an actual effect on anyone. This would be a naive notion. Of course it has an effect. The combined effects from the multiple points of negative message transmission that many people are bombarded with throughout the day is like ants eating an elephant. The elephant wouldn’t even notice 1, 10, or 100, but once they start eating away at the defensive surface, getting under the skin and into the flesh, they can have a major effect. By the thousands, they can prove to be deadly over time.

Here’s the video followed by a breakdown.

Remember, it’s all about subtly and the messages that are being delivered. Here is the text. Read it and decide if this is paranoia or if the sprinkling of evil and misleading directions is real.

Who are you not to be great?

You – the imagination of a brilliant child and the powers of an ancient god – who are you to be ordinary?

You who can rescind life or raise the dead…

Who are you to be afraid? You can serve as judge and jury while hoarding infinite lives.

Who are you to be a slave to the past? You who can travel time like the oceans and rewrite history with a single world.

Who are you to be anonymous? You whose name should be spoken in reverent tones or in terrified whispers.

Who are you to deny greatness? If you would deny it to yourself, you deny it to the entire world…

…and we will not be denied.

The easiest way to deliver a message is to use distraction. In this case, Playstation used 35 “easter eggs” or hidden references to games in order to keep viewers focused on what’s happening in the background while the message is delivered. Here’s the breakdown of the easter eggs:

All in all, it’s pretty clear to me, but you may see it differently. The important thing to note is this – messages are out there. Subtle blasphemies are real. Don’t dismiss them. Don’t underestimate them. Be cognizant and you’ll have your best chance of handling them appropriately.

Why are Celebrities Heralded for Coming Out but Bashed for Changing Their Minds?

Antoine Dodson Not Gay

Antoine Dodson shot to fame after a home invader tried to rape his sister. He was interviewed by the local news channel and his tirade went viral. It was remixed, auto-tuned, and mimicked. There were t-shirts, bandanas, and interviews on national talk shows like George Lopez.

Shortly after stardom found him, he made no effort to hide that he was homosexual. He was very public about his love for Gucci, his strong sense of fashion, and his feminine mannerisms.

Earlier this year, he announced that he was no longer homosexual. He said that he was reading his Bible and that he was becoming a “Hebrew Israelite” that believes in Jesus. He is holding to the commandments and laws of God. His theology is not the topic of this post, however. It’s in the reaction from the media that is most concerning.

When someone comes out as being homosexual, they are often called courageous. Today, it’s arguably more dangerous from the perspective of material success in this world to denounce one’s homosexuality. As he posted on his Facebook profile:

“I’ve lost so much(materialistic things), but in return I’ve gain truth and understanding. At first I didn’t understand what was happening in my life. I’ve lost so called friends and family. It just felt like everything was going wrong in my life. But the Most High is awesome and he have his way of doing things. As the days went on my tears begin to dry up and the understanding of what was going on in my life seemed clearer. I started to realize as I began to walk with the Most High more and more that sometimes you will lose everything that you ever know or known to discover your truths. Truth really is the best gift one could give another. So what I don’t have the things the idols do. I have one thing they don’t have and that’s truth and I walk in it. Be blessed everyone and know that the Most High will always work in you favor even if it seems bad. Just wait for the outcome, I guarantee it’s awesome. Praise to the Most High, much love to the Son the messiah the lamb Amen.”

In an interview with the Huffington Post, Dodson’s change was met with harsh skepticism. The “journalist” made it very clear that she did not believe in the reality of what Dodson was saying and attempted throughout the interview to paint his sudden shift as unlikely. One listening might believe that she was trying to denounce his denouncement of homosexuality.

“So Antoine, you are literally trying to pray the gay away,” she asked him in a condescending tone.

Today, one will not get attacked for announcing that they are homosexual, at least not in the media. Publicly, people are shifting towards acceptance and understanding being the way that they want to be perceived.

Today, one will get attacked for announcing that they are no longer homosexual. This is just one example of an interview where Dodson had to defend his choice. Listen to the sentiment. Understand the implications.

The Cambrian Explosion Makes the Theory of Evolution Unlikely

Charles Darwin

There are two important things to note before checking out the infographic below. We do not believe in the general tenets of the concept of intelligent design nor not believe in a need for proof when it comes to our Lord or the validity of the Bible. Yes, God is our creator and yes, there are ways to prove the validity of the Bible, but intelligent design puts emphasis on reconciling the creation with scientific data. This is a dangerous and false path to follow.

While we disagree with the concept of time listed in the infographic below, it still highlights an interesting point in time when there seemed to be an explosion of life forms being created. It isn’t that we believe in the premise of the graphic but it can be used to start an interesting dialogue about the falsehoods of Darwinian Evolutionary Theory.

When Jesus is the Umpire

Pitcher and Batter

There is always a danger when using metaphors to illustrate concepts within the Bible. The Book itself uses metaphors throughout and the parables used by Jesus help to illuminate proper ways of living such as the Parable of the Two Debtors, as well as future events such as the Parable of the Ten Virgins. However, all too often metaphors are conceived in the minds of men that they may attempt to illuminate a truth when in reality they are misguiding those who may hear.

This is particularly dangerous when attempting Biblical exegeses. The text of the Bible works so well for those who read it and truly proclaim its Gospel. When we try to slide in metaphors to explain it, our earthly flaws often take people down the wrong path.

Despite this understanding, I felt that this particular metaphor made enough sense that I was compelled to bring it to light. It’s best to be cautious with everything one hears or reads that isn’t direct Biblical teaching. Some can be helpful. Most can mislead. I’m hopeful that this will be helpful in understanding where we stand in this world and why it’s so important to be humble, thankful, repentant souls.

In many ways, life is like baseball. We walk up to the plate with our bat in hand. People, circumstances, and events in our life pitch the ball and we have a choice to make while the ball is in the air. Do we swing or not? When we choose to swing, we can either hit the ball or miss. Sometimes, life sends us a pitch and we’re able to make contact, sending the ball out into the field. Sometimes we get a hit, sometimes we are called out. These are out successes and failures.

Sometimes we swing and miss altogether.

If we choose not to swing, it can either be a ball or a strike. If it’s a ball, we made the right choice not to swing, not to act on that particular pitch that life through at us. Other times, it’s a strike and we miss an opportunity for a hit based upon our inaction.

We go through life facing many pitchers. Some pitchers, such as school, are easier to hit for some than others. Those who are successful hitting against those pitchers have an opportunity to move up to face more challenging pitchers in life such as careers. Those who are not successful against the school pitcher still have opportunities. They may go into a different league but their path through life will still bring pitchers that give us opportunities to succeed or fail.

The examples of all the games and pitchers that we face through life can go on forever. Love, money, illness, parental responsibilities – we often are faced with such a wide range of pitchers and pitching styles that we focus on the ones that we hit well and neglect the others that make us swing and miss more often than not.

There’s another pitcher that we all must face. It is sin. When Satan himself takes to the mound, we get to see pitches that we didn’t even know existed. The fastballs are faster, the curveballs break harder, the sliders are nasty. We often take our swings and we can even make contact every now and then, but we’re clearly over-matched. It’s like a major league pitcher against a little league batter. We have no chance in the long run. He has already beaten us.

The only way to get on base when sin is the pitcher is if we have Jesus Christ as the umpire. He knows that we cannot hit Satan’s pitches. He died on the cross so we wouldn’t have to. If we let go and allow Jesus to call the game for us, we don’t even have to swing. We shouldn’t swing at all. Even if Satan pitches it in the center of the strike zone, if we trust in Jesus as our Lord and Savior and life a life of repentance, He will call it a ball every time we don’t swing. Satan’s nasty pitches of sin can only strike us out if don’t put our faith in the umpire. If we start swinging at sin on our own, we will always strike out.

Living the life of a believer is not about being a good person. It’s not about trying to be fruitful or making a difference in this world. It’s not about tolerance of others, acceptance of others’ beliefs, or a modernization of old ideas. It’s about letting go and believing in one universal truth that can be summed up in three acknowledgements.

  • We are sinners.

  • We are incapable of facing sin alone.

  • It’s only through complete belief in Christ and the constant repenting for our sins that we have any chance at all of making it to the next life.

Despite all we hear from many modern day “pastors,” Jesus is not here to help us live a good life. He’s didn’t die on the cross so we could prosper. Letting Him into your life is not something that will guaranty you success in your job, your marriage, or your health. He came to this world and died on the cross for our sins so we may have a path to be with Him in Heaven. It is the only path. To get there, we have to stop swinging at our sins and start begging for mercy because of them.

Will Ariel Sharon’s Death Precede the Coming of Yeshua?

Ariel Sharon

Ariel Sharon, former Prime Minister of Israel, has been in a coma since a stroke in 2006. Despite showing significant brain activity earlier this year, he is expected to die soon. Will his death be a preceding event to the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ?

If the interpretations of the last note from a dying man are to be believed, it will indeed mean something when Sharon dies. Rabbi Yitzhak Kaduri was a renowned Mizrahi Haredi rabbi and Kabbalist who was best known for having read and memorized the Bible. His orthodox Jewish followers believed that his teachings were the most profound and that nobody had experienced a greater devotion to reading and studying the Torah than any other modern day person, having lived from 108-118 years depending on which date of birth is authentic before his death in 2006.

Kaduri claimed that he met the Jewish Messiah. He scribbled a not that would name the Messiah and instructed his followers not to open it until one year after his death. He also said that the Messiah would come shortly after the death of Ariel Sharon.

When it was finally opened, they say that it said this:

“ירים העם ויוכיח שדברו ותורתו עומדים” (Yarim Ha’Am Veyokhiakh Shedvaro Vetorato Omdim )

In English:

Concerning the letter abbreviation of the Messiah’s name, He will lift the people and prove that his word and law are valid.

This I have signed in the month of mercy,

Yitzhak Kaduri

In Hebrew, the letters of the bold part of the sentence form the word “Yehoshua”, the Hebrew name of Jesus. One of the most respected orthodox Jewish teachers of our time believed that he had met Jesus Christ and that he would be revealed as the Jewish Messiah in the very near future. We know that his words are correct. We do not know if it was a prophecy or an admission late in life, but the feeling he was trying to convey was clear despite efforts by his followers, the media, and those against Yeshua to explain away the meaning.

Here’s a video that explains it further.

Romans 8:7-8 – “Those who are in the flesh…”

Romans 8:7-8

Romans 8:7-8

For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

It doesn’t get any more straightforward than that, but there are those who are trying to promote the concept that our works are able to help us find salvation, that we can be pleasing in God’s eyes by “doing good” as Pope Francis has stated. This couldn’t be further from the truth. What we do as humans that isn’t specifically repentant belief in Christ cannot bring us salvation. You can give all of your money to charity, travel the world giving people food, and run into a burning building to save children hiding in a closet, but if you don’t also believe with all of your hear that Christ is your Lord who died on the cross for your sins, you’re soul is still lost.

Chris Rosebrough from @piratechristian has Joel Osteen Figured Out

Joel Osteen

It’s hard to not like Joel Osteen. As a person, he is loaded with smiles. He’s encouraging, well-spoken, and visually impressive. The biggest problem with him is that his messages of hope, inspiration, and encouragement are based on shifting the teachings of the Bible into modern self-help activities. He is so easy to follow because his teachings are appealing to the earthly body. He preaches prosperity, happiness, and success rather than repentance.

The messages are brilliant. They make people feel good about their lives. It does not, however, lead people to the Word of God. It’s affirmation. It’s not the truth and compassion that our Lord has given us. He promotes the concept of doing things for ourselves. The truth is that our works, hard though some try, are not capable of giving us eternal life. Pursuit of the things that Osteen preaches leads to eternal damnation. We don’t need spiritual guides. We need Jesus. That’s what Joel Osteen should be preaching.

Chris Rosebrough from Pirate Christian Radio put a good perspective on Osteen’s teachings in a show last year. Here’s the video – definitely worth listening to and sharing with those who follow Osteen.

A Brief Scientific Explanation of Why Creation is More Feasible

DNA Creation

Feasible. It’s a word that I don’t like to use when talking about the Creation because it insinuates that there are doubts about the reality of creation and the need for there to be a creator. I have no doubts. There are those, however, who still believe that the machinations of the universe through natural forces coming together in just the right at just the right time have brought the world that we know it to where it is today.

For those who want a brief and layman understanding of why the Darwinian mechanism is insufficient in explaining how life on earth came into being.

We don’t completely agree with everything that is being stated in this video and others that we’re exploring now from Stephen C. Meyer, but the basis behind the case for creation is strong.

Luke 1:37 – Nothing shall be impossible

Luke 1:37

Luke 1:37 (King James Version)

For with God nothing shall be impossible.

The angel Gabriel was talking to Mary and telling her that she would give birth to Jesus. She asked, “How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?” Gabriel’s answer was simple but so important. We’ve heard in other verses that nothing is impossible for the Lord, but this is a time when it’s spoken by an entity that would know better than others.

Mark 10:25 – Can a rich man go to heaven?

Mark 10:25

Mark 10:25 (King James Version)

It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

This is a verse that is always troubling to many. In essence, it is telling us that it is impossible for the rich to find their way into the heaven, a prospect that greatly discourages many. We are taught from such an early age by the actions of our parents that this life requires success for happiness and that success often comes through the acquisition of wealth. It is the greatest trap of this world. Money gives us food. More money gives us food that we can enjoy more. It gives us “things” that bring us joy in this life – gadgets, games, travel, entertainment – all of it circles around money.

It is also a source of temptation. Those who have nothing but God in their lives often have a harder life in this world but a better one in the next. The timing of this verse is extremely important as well. He was talking to a man that claimed to be keeping the commandments throughout his life. The man asked Jesus what he needed to do to inherit eternal life.

Jesus answered, “One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.”

This vexed the man and the people listening, as they did not want to give everything they had in this world. Then, Jesus spoke the words in verse 25. This astonished even the disciples who wondered how any person could enter into heaven with such worldly expectations. This is where Jesus gave them and all of us the truth about the exact way in which he answered the question.

Mark 10:28 (King James Version)

And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.

Here, we see the point of the verse. The man had asked, “what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?”

The answer is that there is nothing a man can do to inherit eternal life because it is impossible. Only through God, through faith and following of his son Yeshua, can a man enter into the kingdom of God.

Lip-Smacking Sounds of Gelada Baboons Heralded as Missing Link

Gelada Baboons

Christians often get accused of bending the truth and making stretches on observations to prove a point of creationism or Biblical accounts. Unfortunately, the same holds true in the world of science where stretching the imagination and abandoning common sense are often tools of the trade to prove that life on earth was an accident.

It’s front page news that Thore Bergman, a scientist from the University of Ann Arbor, thought that there were people behind him talking when he was working in the mountains of Ethiopia.

“It was unnerving to have primate vocalizations sound so much like human voices,” the scientist said in a press release.

The way that they make sounds, known as “wobbles”, is a rapid lip-smacking that generates noises unlike other primates. Here is a short sampling, the best we were able to find on YouTube:

Freaky? Absolutely. Resembling of human speech? It’s a slight stretch, but compared the shrieks, cries, and roars of other primates it’s definitely the closest to human sounds as possible, not so much because it sounds like the noises that humans normally make but because humans could make similar sounds. It’s definitely an interesting find, a curiosity that makes for a fun YouTube video and possibly even a need for further examination. It definitely does not warrant the attention it’s getting in mainstream media or claims being made by some publications.

Here’s the listing on Google News. It was listed as one of the top stories of the day:

Missing Link Google News

This is so far from being a missing link that many scientists are even calling it a stretch, yet as part of our programming the find is being called a breakthrough in the quest to prove that we evolved from monkeys.

Even if you believe that the sounds could evolve into ancient human speech, there’s one thing that it simply cannot reconcile. The ability to speak has always been a major stumbling block for evolutionists because it requires a sudden jump. Communication from an evolutionary perspective is necessary for many animals. They warn each other of danger, announce moods, participate in mating rituals, and in the case of dolphins and a handful of other creatures, it allows for communication of individuality.

Complex speech cannot, based upon evolutionary standards, happen accidentally. It can and does evolve over time once the basic need to communicate through speech is established, but establishing the need for speech as part of communication is not possible without help. This is where scientific discovery works against itself. Many animals can be taught to communicate. Chimpanzees have famously been taught sign language and other types of complex communication techniques that demonstrate an aptitude, but they must be taught.

The best friend of scientific theories as they pertain to evolution and the formation of the universe is, of course, time. It is used by the vast majority of scientists as the driving force behind their theories in these regards. It makes it to where they don’t have to prove how an actual ability such as speech, flight, or even sight was able to evolve. They simply have to demonstrate that there was something there that could have evolved, then apply large numbers to their hypothesis to account for impossibilities. This is an example. Gelada baboons have the ability to make human-like noises, therefore given 2.5 million years they’ll be able to speak like humans because of evolution.

It doesn’t address the spark. It doesn’t address that for language to evolve, it must exist in the first place. Vocal communication is not speech. There is no evolutionary reason for animals to need to give names to anything in their surroundings such as trees or other animals. Therefore, the ability to speak cannot be born through evolution. Again, speech itself can evolve once established but it must be established first. This cannot happen over 2.5 million years.

Perhaps the easier way to demonstrate this is with sight. Here is how it was explained 7 years ago:

Scientists have traced the origin of eyes back to a transparent blob of living jelly floating in the sea about 600 million years ago.

That creature, the distant ancestor of a modern freshwater animal known as a hydra, could only distinguish light from dark.

But that simple trick was such an advantage that it was passed on from generation to generation of the hydra’s cousins and their myriad descendants. It was the precursor of the wildly different, ever more complex eyes of fish, ants, flies, giraffes and people.

Notice where the story of the evolution of sight starts – with a creature that could distinguish between light and dark. This is a problem for evolutionists because it still does not explain why the creature developed the ability to make that distinction in the first place. For evolution to work, a need must be filled. For a need to be filled, an observable stimulus must trigger the need. How can the ability to distinguish between light and dark come about if the predecessors had no way of known that there was light in the first place?

There are those who will debate it until they’re blue in the face but they cannot determine the sparking factor. The answer that is almost always attributed to the solution is random genetic mutation. Something happened randomly to one and then it grew to spread across entire species. As you walk along the path set before you by Yeshua, remember that there are two primary “reasonable explanations” that others will use to try to convince you of their falsehoods: long lengths of time and genetic mutations. They are the only things that can confuse the issue enough to suspend disbelief.

Unfortunately, they are powerful tools strong enough to keep many in the dark. This is just another example of the same concept. Just look at all of the coverage that this is getting. Don’t be fooled by the silliness of science designed to deceive.
