Conan O’Brien is joining the fight against California’s drought

Conan O’Brien and his sidekick, Andy Richter, have joined the ongoing fight against California’s drought, which is one of the worst in history. The iconic comedian and television talk show host is taking on the drought by joining the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and the Save Our Water program in order to promote water conservation.

The duo have released six videos that put a humorous spin on public service announcements (PSA) that challenge Californians to do their part to fight the drought by cutting personal water use as much as they can. The videos follow the debut of Conan’s first drought PSA parody a few weeks ago, which itself followed California’s recent Emergency Regulations announcement to cut excessive outdoor water waste.

“Governor Brown has called for everyone in California to cut their water use by 20 percent, and that includes famous comedians,” says Steve Fleischli, director of NRDC’s water program. “Conan and Andy, true to form, offer their unique twist on how to cut water use in our everyday lives. Mixing humor and advocacy is an effective way to reinforce the message that we can all do our part.”

The PSAs were produced in partnership with the NRDC, the California Water Foundation, and California’s Save Our Water campaign. All of the videos are available on the NRDC and Save Our Water websites, and will also be featured on digital, social media, television, and radio networks across the state.

“Conan O’Brien’s call for conservation will help us spread the message to even more Californians,” said Mark Cowin, director of the California Department of Water Resources.

“As serious as this drought may be, Californians of all stripes can get behind Conan O’Brien’s humorous take on how to save water,” said Tim Quinn, executive director of the Association of California Water Agencies.
