Christianity Suppressed in Bangladesh Village

Christians in Bangladesh

There is so much persecution happening against Christians, particularly in Mulsim countries, that it’s easy to miss news of the smaller communities of the world where Christians are facing similar roadblocks. The Bangladesh village of Bilbathuagani is one such place.

Reports are coming in that construction of a church has been halted by the local government and that threats of beating and eviction have been made to those professed Christians who do not convert to Islam. Since a new government was installed in 2009 that promoted religious freedom, Bangladesh has fallen off the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom watch list. Despite constitutional provisions declaring that the people are free to practice whatever religion they want, the village administrators are not willing to obey or even hear of it.

The country is made up of less than 1% Christians. It is a land where the opportunity to bring the Word of God is great. Pray for those who are spreading the Gospel and if you know of any ways that they can be helped otherwise, please let us know.

A local government official in central Bangladesh has halted the construction of a church, forced Christians to worship at a mosque and threatened them with eviction from their village unless they renounce their faith.

The Tangail Evangelical Holiness Church in Bilbathuagani village, Tangail district, about 100 kilometres north of Dhaka, was created Sept. 8 by a group of about 25 Christians who had been meeting secretly for three years.
