A ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas in Gaza lasted nearly two hours before the terrorist group broke it. This alone would be enough to cast doubt on the Obama administrations understanding of the turmoil in the Middle East, but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu poured vinegar on the wound by letting them know that they should not go against him again, in essence telling them that they are in over their intellectual heads when it comes to dealing with Hamas.
According to the Associated Press:
Sources familiar with conversations between Netanyahu and senior U.S. officials, including Secretary of State John Kerry, say the Israeli leader advised the Obama administration “not to ever second guess me again” on the matter. The officials also said Netanyahu said he should be “trusted” on the issue and about the unwillingness of Hamas to enter into and follow through on cease-fire talks.
Over and over again the Obama administration’s lukewarm support of our best ally in the Middle East works to weaken both our position as well as Israel’s case to the world against a Palestinian state. Netanyahu and most of Israel have a clear understanding that ridiculous proposals by President Obama and the United Nations to go with a two-state solution or to even push back to pre-1967 borders cannot end with anything other than further bloodshed and non-stop attacks on the nation.
It is unlikely that this will be enough for the administration to learn it’s lesson. One might go so far as to believe that they have ulterior motives for not heeding the obvious.
