Are Christians at Lackland Air Force Base Being Punished for their Beliefs?

Lackland Air Force Base

Accusations are being made that evangelical Christians at Lackland Air Force Base are being punished for expressing their opinions on gay marriage and in some cases for not expressing their opinions. In one situation, a court martial is being filed. The situation is very secretive with one credible journalist, Todd Starnes of Fox News, being the only one who has been able to crack into the facts behind the story. Even he only has one witness willing to go on the record by name.

If it’s true, this poses a major threat to the country. It isn’t just about the personal challenges faced by those being punished. It represents a shift in one of the last remaining “Christian-friendly” institutions amongst American government entities. Here is what Starnes reports:

Evangelical Christian airmen at Lackland Air Force Base are facing severe threats and retribution for their religious beliefs and some personnel have been ordered to publicly express their position on gay marriage.

“There is an atmosphere of intimidation at Lackland Air Force Base,” said Steve Branson, the pastor of Village Parkway Baptist Church in San Antonio. “Gay commanders and officers are pushing their agenda on the airmen. There is a culture of fear in the military and it’s gone to a new level with the issue of homosexuality.”

Middle East Pushing Christianity Out

Christianity in the Middle East

Three of the world’s major religions were born in the Middle East. One of them is isolated to Israel. One of them is prominent throughout the Middle East. The third, Christianity, is being pushed out rapidly by one of the other two.

It’s hard to be a Christian in the Middle East. Depending on the country, it can be a life filled with the harshest possible persecutions. We should pray for them to remain strong, but as the Bible tells, those who die under persecution for their faith and remain strong in their belief in Jesus Christ unto the end will receive their reward.

A recent study examines the challenges happening to Christians in the Middle East and shows how they are being pushed out just as more are coming to believe in our Messiah.

Respected UK historian Tom Holland told a briefing in London this week that the world is watching the effective extinction of Christianity from its birthplace.

In an apocalyptic appraisal of the worsening political situation in the region, a panel of experts provided a mass of evidence and statistics for the end of the region’s nation states under the onslaught of militant Islam.

Make Everyone Aware of Saeed Abedini

Saeed Abedini

Vigils and other gatherings continue across the country, most particularly by the White House where awareness of the plight of pastor Saeed Abedini and his family. As his Iranian jailing continues into its second year, there are still those in the Iranian government who claim they do not know who he is. There are Christians around the world who do not know what has happened.

Every moment in jail puts his life at risk. This isn’t a standard imprisonment; as a Christian in an Iranian jail, he is trapped with enemies from every angle. It isn’t just the other inmates. His jailors are his enemies as well.

We must continue to pray and do what we can to help Saeed get out of jail. Here’s an article that updates his situation and highlights actions being taken by those concerned.

Human rights advocates gathered in front of the White House last week to pray and raise awareness for Christian pastor Saeed Abedini, a U.S. citizen who has been held in an Iranian prison for the past year, reports Catholic News Agency.

Jordan Sekulow, director of policy and international operations for the American Center for Law and Justice, told CNA that the vigil’s first goal is to “keep Saeed alive.”

Jackie E. Hill’s Jig-A-Boo: Amazing Christian Poem Performance

Jackie E Hill

Modern poetry is all too often associated with a liberal mindset. Poetry is as more controlled by the worldly youth today than ever before. The way that it is presented, the subject matter, and the poets themselves often seem so attuned to the hyper-realities of this world that it’s difficult to find true Biblical messaging and proper exegesis of the Scripture without going to popular Christian music or attempts of taking the message of our Lord and lightening it up to fit today’s worldview.

Poet Jackie E. Hill breaks all of those generalities. She is youthful but her words betray a wisdom beyond her years that has been guided through hardship and suffering, harnessed into brilliance, and presented in the form of several stunning modern masterpieces. She has a gift for both putting the words together as well as presenting them in a way that has the listener hanging on every word. Most importantly, she rightly handles the Word of God and is fearless in her attacks on the “Christian personality” that harms those who crave the true Gospel.

Here is one of her performances. Watch it. Share it. Watch it again.

Student-Led Prayer Now Allowed in Liberal, Kansas

Student-Led Prayer

In a move that is sure to bring scrutiny and criticism, the school board for Liberal, Kansas, voted unanimously to allow student-led prayer at events. It was apparently a spontaneous call to action that was not part of the original agenda. A board member wanted it discussed at the following board meeting but they worked it into the agenda and voted immediately.

Schools in America have been on a downward spiral ever since the corruption of anti-prayer rules started spreading in the 1960s. Today, the words “school” and “prayer” are almost never in the same sentence in our public school systems, yet we wonder why schools are more dangerous, why students are less obedient, and why society in general is taking a negative turn in America. The Liberal School Board will get backlash from non-Christians in the community and probably on a national scale. They will have to persevere for the childrens’ sake as this is an important precedent that needs to be set.

A school board in Kansas has voted unanimously to allow student-led prayers at school functions, restoring a practice that had been discontinued due to a fear of appearing to endorse a particular religion.

While prayer was not on the agenda for this month’s meeting in Liberal, Kansas, members agreed that it was an important issue to address.

Israel and Netanyahu Being Pushed in a Corner by US, Iran

Netanyahu Speaking at the United Nations

While the rest of the world seems to be warming to moderate Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Israel’s Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu tried to warn US President Barack Obama and the United Nations that Rouhani is a “wolf in sheep’s clothing.”

His assertions seem to be true, though veiled behind an air of reduced extremism. Despite the Iranian President’s unwillingness to stop supporting terrorists and the fact that he has been a propelling force for Iran’s nuclear weapons initiatives even before becoming president, the world seems to be viewing him as a kinder, gentler leader and a potential beacon for positive change in the Middle East. Israel has been in a constant state of danger since it became a nation again and thanks to the Grace of God they have not suffered the types of losses that could easily have fallen on the tiny country. Still, this puts them in an isolated position and the United States seems unwilling to be more aggressive with Iran.

Here is the video of his speech:

Learn more about the situation on The Guardian:

Barack Obama and Israel‘s prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, were at pains to demonstrate common ground on dealing with Iran‘s nuclear programme. But their White House meeting on Monday night failed to assuage or disguise deep Israeli unease about the ramifications of a possible rapprochement between Washington and Tehran, and the overall direction of Obama’s Middle East policy. In short, Israel is being squeezed in a tightening strategic vice, and its pain was evident in a blistering attack on Iran by Netanyahu at the UN general assembly on Tuesday.

Dan Froomkin’s Reporting on Failed Reporting is the Real Failure

Light Switch

At first, I thought it was satire. That’s how bad it really is.

In a recent article posted on Al Jazeera America, the journalist depicts the way that the government shutdown has unfolded in the news as too neutral. He wants us to believe that there’s a clear cut blame to be placed on the government shutdown and that publications and journalists around the country “failed democracy” by not holding the Republicans in Congress solely accountable for the current predicament we’re in.

One would think that a trained journalist would do more than snap a judgment based upon a single line of an article. Granted, it was a long article that would have taken him at least 5 minutes to read in full, but the first paragraph was all he needed. Here’s how the article starts:

American news reports are largely blaming the government shutdown on the inability of both political parties to come to terms. It is supposedly the result of a “bitterly divided” Congress that “failed to reach agreement” (Washington Post)…

The Washington Post story in question very clearly lays the majority of the blame on the Republicans. It wouldn’t take more than an 8th grade education to see that. The sad part is that the Washington Post stated undisputed facts with which Al Jazeera took issue. Congress is bitterly divided on the issue and they failed to reach an agreement. What part of those statements failed democracy?

Dan Froomkin is an example of the liberal mainstream media that accounts for the majority of the news reporting we see on a daily basis. He believes that we need journalists to hold politicians accountable for extreme actions, not to enable them. The reality is this: we need journalists to inform the people so that the people can hold politicians accountable for their actions. Froomkin failed democracy much more than the Washington Post.

Fishing on Facebook for Traffic and Sales #Infographic

Fishing

The majority of businesses on Facebook fall into one of two mindsets. They either use their Facebook feed for sales and marketing only and wonder why they aren’t getting any engagement or they believe that Facebook is strictly a branding tool and there’s no need to try to sell anything or drive traffic to their website. Thankfully, there’s an easy way to prove that both concepts are incorrect.

In the infographic below by Post Planner, they explore a simplistic but effective formula for finding success, increasing traffic, and driving sales through Facebook. As with most pieces of advice, one must always tweak and adjust based upon their own circumstances, industry, and definitions of success, but this graphic offers a great starting point in the quest to “catch more fish” through Facebook.
