Bob Schieffer doesn’t like how Hillary Clinton is running for President

Old school newsman Bob Schieffer of CBS News fame had a little to say about the Hillary Clinton campaign when asked a few questions during his lifetime achievement award acceptance. The many who has reported on decades of Presidential elections thought that Clinton’s campaign was as artificial as it gets.

He sounded almost like a politician dodging a question when asked about the validity of her email investigation. Instead of answering the question, he ranted about how much money the campaign was spending, how it seemed artificial to try to humanize her to voters, and how people are seeing through the “listening tours” she’s been using to justify shaking hands and kissing babies.

Children near Fukushima up to 50 times more likely for thyroid cancer diagnosis

When an alarming number of 370,000 children living in Fukushima prefecture were diagnosed with thyroid cancer, the Japanese government attributed it to the increased scrutiny and vast testing taking place in the area since the March 2011 nuclear meltdown. Now that the numbers continue to grow at unprecedented rates, the government is reluctantly admitting that there may be something substantial to the claims.

Children in the area are 20-50 times more likely to be diagnosed with thyroid cancer than similar children in other areas of Japan. It isn’t just the number of cases that’s alarming. It’s also the speed with which the cancer seems to be manifesting.

“This is more than expected and emerging faster than expected,” lead author Toshihide Tsuda told The Associated Press during a visit to Tokyo. “This is 20 times to 50 times what would be normally expected.”

The Japanese government and their scientists have repeatedly downplayed the risk to the people in the area, claiming that the precautions to contain the radiation leaks at the doomed reactor have been effective.

Why did the chicken cross the road? To get a hug

As a vegan checks over a menu at the Keg Mansion Steakhouse in Toronto he asks the hostess, “I don’t see any dog meat here.” After the hostess looks at the man, seemingly not understanding the question, he goes on to ask “…I thought this was a meat restaurant?”

After the man asked his asinine question, as if that wasn’t enough stupidity for one hostess to take in a day, a woman followed by asking her “where’s the dog meat? I mean, you’ve got other meats. I don’t understand it. Are you ever going to have dog meat here?”

The steak protesters then proceeded to the middle of the restaurant shouting at customers while the woman who couldn’t understand why a steak house wouldn’t serve dog meat gave her story of a chicken she once knew.

Why are American officials surprised that Putin made a coalition without U.S.?

It isn’t surprising that Russia makes an agreement to share intelligence on ISIS with other countries, not including the U.S. So why were American officials so surprised that the Iraqi military’s Joint Operations Command was part of the intelligence agreement with Russia?

Obama said that compromise is required to end the fighting, specifically referring to the removal of Assad and his regime. Meanwhile, Russia sweeps in as the hero who tries to destroy one of the worst terrorist organizations of our time.

Putin accuses America of creating the terrorist organization by arming rebels in Iraq and Syria. However, Obama believes it is Assad’s crackdown that allowed the terrorist group to enter Syria, which enabled the group to expand their control. Thus, Obama feels Assad needs to leave and all the problems will be solved. I suppose over 200,000 deaths from the Syrian war and the massive influx of refugees isn’t a sign that we are past that point?

Iran will inspect its own site, but under IAEA’s supervision…wheww!

On Monday IAEA announced that Iran’s scientists had collected samples from the suspected nuclear site at Parchin, but without international inspectors present.

The IAEA has confirmed the integrity and authenticity of the samples, however it notes that recent inspection of the Parchin site was hindered. The agency stated that the extensive work at the Parchin site since 2012 undermines the Agency’s ability to conduct effective verification and inspection.

A draft side deal was made between Iran and the IAEA that includes a future visit to be made by Yukiya Amano to Parchin, although the visit is stated to not be an official inspection, but rather a “courtesy” extended by Iran and something Iran says is just a “formality.”

Many have argued that Iran Deal gives Iran the ability to inspect itself, which opponents claim is precisely the opposite of what needs to be done to ensure Iran does not acquire a nuclear bomb and the idea of Iran having anything to do with its own inspection is absurd.

The concerns seem to be valid when taking into consideration Iran has lied and covered up several operations involving uranium enrichment, in addition to being uncooperative in regard to inspections in general. It seems Iran is still hindering adequate inspections by “renovations”, which has been going on for nearly 4 years at the suspected site.

Amano has said that these claims are misleading and that the agreement will satisfy the Agency’s requirements. However, the detail that hasn’t been mentioned by Amano is that Iran will be inspecting their own site, but under IAEA’s supervision. Meaning, that the Iran scientists will still be collecting some samples while being monitored by the Agency’s personnel. How they Agency plans to do this has not been specified.

The real problem with the kid punished for wearing an American flag to school

All’s well that ends well, right? Actually, the correct answer is “sometimes.” At other times and in certain situations, a happy ending is not enough. We have to start asking questions about why certain things go awry in the first place.

The case in question is that of the 16-year-old North Texas high school student who served detention and faced suspension for wearing a shirt that depicted the American flag and an eagle. The school’s dress code says that all shirts must be solid color and the only emblems or logos can be for the school, colleges, or for the military. This shirt and pretty much any shirt that show the American flag can be construed as a military shirt. The principal agreed after some prodding by the media and the punishment was lifted.

It ended well. Now for the real problem here. How did things come to this in the first place? Why would a school in the United States have a problem with a shirt that depicts the flag of the United States? Even in the harshest nations, national pride is something that is not only condoned but that is encouraged. Why wouldn’t it be encouraged here? Why would a school need to pull out the rule book to determine if this was acceptable? Why would a teacher feel it necessary to demonstrate hate towards America and promote that hate to his or her students?

Currently, this is no longer the America that many of us grew up in. It’s Obama’s America. It’s an America that is so intolerant for the sake of tolerance that even an American flag t-shirt draws questions of allegiance. We are training out children that allegiance to God, country, and the Constitution is evil while embracing other forms of “tolerance” are perfectly acceptable.

In Croatia, the train to and from nowhere

Sometimes, a video with no commentary is enough to communicate the emotion, the desperation that surrounds a particular situation. When it comes to the migrant crisis that is flooding Europe with refugees from the Middle East, one simply needs to look at this video in Croatia today to see things are going from bad to worse.

A formidable police line was not enough to keep refugees from forcing their way onto a train. They didn’t know where it was going or whether it would go anywhere. They simply knew that there was a train heading in a direction away from the Syrian turmoil they were trying to escape and that was enough to cause the mad rush.

By the end, the police were able to regain some level of control once the train was completely full. Latecomers can be seen trying to make it through open windows just to get… somewhere.

The Donald Delusion

Nobody can deny that America in general and certain Republicans in particular are enamored by Donald Trump. It’s the entertainment factor. It’s the illusion of “straight talk” that masks the reality of his insecurities. It’s the suspension of disbelief akin to watching a Sci-Fi flick, completely disregarding that the plot has no substance but the special effects are great. It’s all of these things.

The most important thing that this Donald Trump candidacy represents is a delusion. Over 30% of the people selected to be polled among Republicans are claiming that they will vote for Donald Trump. Many are offering their undying allegiance, but most seem to be tickled about the prospects rather than passionate about the candidate. He’s getting support from conservatives whose perspectives he’s shunned in the past. He’s getting support from evangelicals whose faith he’s dismissed even recently. He’s getting support from minorities that he’s diminished his entire career in the spotlight. He’s even getting support from women despite crystal clear and court-documented traits of misogyny.

There is a strong delusion that is currently hovering through the minds of a great many people. It’s the type of delusion that pulls people into believing statements that have no substance. It has them applauding actions, words, and perspectives that they’d normally never support. It has them ignoring his past because they really want things to be better in their future. It’s this delusion that is pushing the country towards pushing another Democrat into the White House.

Donald Trump willfully acknowledges corruption. He has ripped people off in his business dealings, conning them into losing millions through failures and bankruptcies. He’s bought “favors” from politicians. Based upon what we can see with his personality, he’s probably bought worse things than favors. None of these things can be denied.

With all of this against him, how can Donald Trump be the frontrunner in the strongest field of GOP candidates the country has seen in decades? According to Sherlock Holmes through Arthur Conan Doyle, “Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth.”

This is where it gets weird.

We know that Donald Trump should not be a viable candidate based upon all of the public information we’ve seen so far. Therefore, we have to look at the improbably even if most of it is absolutely insane. Here are some of those possibilities:

• Donald Trump is the benefactor of some sort of conspiracy that is inflating his perceived popularity in order to win real popularity. It could be the Illuminati, the New World Order, the Catholics, the Russians, or any of the entities in a long list of organizations that may or may not really exist.
• This is supernatural. Whether it’s the Will of God or the manipulations of Satan, Trump’s popularity is being guided by forces that are beyond us all.
• The internet wins and the country is lost. Blame it on mobile devices. Blame it on the Kardashians. In this scenario, something has broken down in society to the point that a man of such low morals and unenviable values is able to toot his horn loud enough that voters have become blind and deaf to reality.
• The Democrats are rigging the election. They realize that their candidates are so weak that they would lose to any of the top five or six GOP candidates. As a result, they somehow inserted a ringer who will unwittingly create a straight path for President Obama’s successor to be one of his own teammates.

Whatever the reason really is for Trump’s continued popularity, two things are certain. Some of the people are falling for the delusion and most of the rest of us are scratching our heads wondering if this is real life or if we’re all just coming back from the dentist.

Russian hackers taking sensitive data through satellites

There’s very little doubt that hackers are getting smarter and more sophisticated in their forms of attack. The most recent clever technique comes from a group known as Turla, a group suspected to be from Russia that utilizes commercial satellites to steal sensitive data from diplomatic and military agencies in the United States, Europe, China, and even Russia itself.

This is news, but it’s not new. Cybersecurity experts believe they’ve been using this technique for at least eight years.

The code name being given to the leader of the organization is “Venomous Bear,” a name established by Dmitri Alperovitch from CrowdStrike. Their tactics are to upload malicious software to older satellites since they do not encrypt data they send back to earth.

Kentucky clerk jailed for not breaking faith

After a short court session, U.S. District Judge David L. Bunning sent Rowan County clerk Kim Davis to jail for contempt of court. She declined to submit to and order from the judge to start issuing marriage licenses.

The situation has drawn national attention ever since the clerk ordered her staff to stop issuing licenses to anyone, gay or straight, to maintain fairness in her decision to not go against her faith. Since embracing her Christian faith four years ago, Davis has vowed to stay true regarding marriage equality. If her faith won’t allow her to give licenses to gay couples, than adherence to fairness prevent her from giving licenses to anyone.

Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee and other prominent figures have expressed support for the clerk. There have been attempts by various local and state politicians to prevent the situation from escalating to this level, but their efforts did not succeed in time. Some are turning this into a war of bigotry rather than marriage equality or religious freedoms.

Donald Trump appeals to ignorant Americans like David Duke

There’s something important to note: ignorance and intelligence are two different things. We’re not calling Donald Trump’s supporters stupid. They are, however, ignorant of the reality of the man and naive about what he’s selling versus what he’s actually going to do if he were to get into the White House.

Nobody doubts his ability to sell. He sells television ratings; even he calls himself the “Ratings King.” He sells ideas; a business man doesn’t achieve the heights he’s achieved without being able to sell concepts that would be appealing to the average listener. He sells the deal; that’s his greatest strength in business and proving to be his greatest strength in politics.

Former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke recognizes this. That’s one of the things that he finds most appealing about Trump as he reiterated over and over again last week on his radio show.

Being the “best in the lot” would normally be considered a great thing to hear from a radio host and two-time Presidential candidate, but it’s definitely not the type of endorsement that Trump would want publicized. Donald Trump is a salesman through and through. He knows how to analyze a situation and create support from the people he’s trying to whom he’s trying to sell. Again, it’s his greatest strength. In #Ferguson, judge takes step towards reducing tension

With all of the turmoil that has surrounded Ferguson, MO, for the past year, it’s good to see someone in the government making a move that will reduce some of the tension that has been ripping the city and much of the nation apart. Big changes were announced Monday, including an order to withdraw all arrest warrants issued before 2015.

Newly appointed Municipal Court Judge Donald McCullin made several changes, some of which echo changes that are happening in other surrounding areas and some of which are new. They are designed to relieve much of the unnecessary pressure on the citizens and the police force, reducing the possibilities for conflict by forgiving past crimes. While some may view it as injustice, others see it as a necessary step to let flames of past scars cool down.

All of this comes just in time for the residents of Ferguson. Not only are the faced with constant pressure from the media and a police force that has been very hesitant in performing their duties, but the city is also facing several financial hardships. It was in a poor fiscal position prior to the controversies and the unrest increases the strain on taxpayers.

The punctuating tragedy in the situation is that there is still severe violence, particularly against innocent people caught in the crossfire.

German student lives on trains. Literally.

If you love travelling and hate paying rent, there’s a cheaper alternative in Germany. Buy a train ticket. The all-you-can-travel ticket costs $380 per month and allows you to board any train in the country you want.

That’s the story of 23-year-old Leonie Müller. After a dispute with her landlord, she decided that she no longer wanted to live anywhere in particular. Instead, she lives pretty much everywhere. Between classes and visits to friends and family, she stays on trains. She eats on trains. She works on trains. She even washes her hair in train restrooms. She’s living the ultimate traveler’s lifestyle.

It’s getting her a ton of attention in Germany and throughout Europe. She’s using this attention to spread the word about breaking outside of the norms of society. She also plans for her adventures to be the source of her final undergraduate paper.

19 girls murdered by Islamic State for refusing to become sex slaves

The sheer brutality and disregard for human life by the Islamic State continues to become more evident as reports flood the news wire about their atrocities. The latest report shows that 19 kidnapped girls were murdered for not willingly becoming sex slaves for ISIS soldiers.

The culture of rape within the organization has brought fear to a new level within the Middle East as the Islamic State expands its reach and power. While many countries, including the United States, continue to use ineffective airstrikes to stop the organization, non-Sunni Muslims, Christians, and people of other faiths are being butchered.

According to Breaking Israel News:

The radical Islamist group believes that the Yazidis are heretics and the Christians expendable.  Senior UN official Zainab Bangura said that ISIS maintains and publicizes a “slave price list” for captured women and children. She also reported that the group’s ongoing appeal and barbarity pose an unprecedented challenge to those that oppose them.

Detroit Lions receiver Ryan Broyles becomes darling of Christian journalism

It isn’t common for a wide receiver in the NFL to get much attention from the press when they’re fighting for the final receiver spot on the roster. That’s not the case for Ryan Broyles who is getting press for his faith rather than his play.

All three of his NFL seasons have ended in injury. After being drafted by the Lions in the second round from the University of Oklahoma, he showed signs of being a strong NFL player before getting injured. Now, he’s fighting to continue his career with the Lions. He’s small (5’10”) and injury-prone but his faith is helping him keep his spirit high.

“Man, all you can do is take care of yourself and do the best you can,” he told the Detroit Free Press this month. “If there’s a place for you, there’s a place for you. If not, hopefully there will be somewhere else. But if football’s over, I’ve always been future minded so whatever happens, happens. As long as you give it your best in any situation in life, it is what it is.”

It’s that attitude and his focus on faith that have him making headlines. He was raised in a Christian household but did not really give his life fully to God until a mission trip to Haiti. Since then, his perspectives have changed and made him someone for the Christian press and Lions fans to root for wholeheartedly.

According to Christian Examiner:

With a heart full of love for God and an eye on the future, Broyles’ only knows one direction: forward. He’s shown it in the decisions he’s made and the friends he’s surrounded himself with and he tries not worrying over where he might be this time next year.

Volvo gives two paths to luxury with 2016 S60

Is that an S60 driving by?  Is that another one?  Why do they look so different?  For this new year the Volvo S60 offers two very different models that have different purposes.  The Cross Country is an off-roading sedan that offers a higher ride height, fender flair and AWD.  The Inscription is the lavishly luxurious car that you expect the S60 to be.  Both are made to turn some heads and bring in the features and equipment that we want at a price the starts out much lower than the more mainstream names of BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

Of course the S60 is one of the most safety laden vehicles on the road, we wouldn’t have it any other way, and the Inscription give you three more inches of legroom to make it very comfortable in the rear seat.  The newness for this year is the Cross Country model that makes it easy to see how Volvo is trying to show how the luxury cars can be great off road vehicles.  With the way compact crossover SUVs are getting smaller, this is probably the next step, and might save on a lot of retooling at manufacturing facilities.

The pricing of the S60 is going to put a smile on your face. The T5 starts just under $35,000, while the Inscription Premier T5 in FWD comes in at just under $40,000 and the Cross Country begins life around $45,000.  Adding the AWD will cost you an additional $1,500 but its well worth it to gain that added driving control on and off the road.

At these prices you are getting an S60 Sedan that has the expanded rear seat in the Inscription or an off road player in the Cross Country.  The cabin is comfortable and all controls are easy for you to find when you are ready for a drive.  Everyone will feel comfortable and supported in the seats of the S60 which also offers plenty of visibility.

On the outside the S60 is a stylish and sleek sedan.  The long hood transitions easily to a low roofline that curves to the back in a style that resembles a four-door coupe and not a sedan.  With the different look of the Cross Country the two cars sitting side by side appear to be completely different cars, but they are obviously built on the same platform and are the same car for the most part.

The equipment you can find in the S60 starts with the active safety of the City Safety system which helps to avoid low speed collisions, the Collision Warning system with full auto brake that senses collisions out on the road and helps apply the brake quickly and the Pedestrian Detection system with the full auto brake to also apply the brake.  In the Inscription you will get more space, a rearview camera, walnut wood trimmings, sound deadening materials, a power rear window sunshade and silk-metal accents.

For the optional features the S60 can be had with 19-inch wheels, paddle shifters, a sporty chassis enhancement, Park Assistance Pilot which self-parks the vehicle, blind spot information system, keyless entry and starting, a rearview camera, power folding exterior mirrors, heated front seats, a heated windshield, a Harmon/Kardon audio system and much more to make the V60 the car you really want to drive every day.

As with much of the Volvo lineup you have a choice of three engines.  The 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder comes on the FWD models only and the 2.5 liter turbocharged inline five-cylinder and 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder are found on the AWD models.  The horsepower starts at a low of 240 and move to a high of 325 to give you the power you need and the fuel efficiency that matches as the smaller engine can reach up to 37 mpg on the highway.

The drive in a V60 comes in a variety of ways because you have a couple different ways this car is set up.  Regardless of your choice of trim, the active suspension and responsive steering give you the ride you want along with the ability to enjoy better driving with the AWD on the Cross Country.  As a new way to show off a how a car can be made and offer a highly versatile choice, the S60 is waiting for you come on in and pick one up and start driving in comfortable luxury today.
